About Hypnobirthing
Hypnobirthing is a practical approach to preparing for birth, combining an understanding of how birth works with breathing techniques, deep relaxation, visualisation and tools to help you feel calmer and more confident.Despite the name, there's no being hypnotised or losing control! It's about learning techniques that can help you manage fear, stay focused and approach birth feeling informed and prepared.
Absolutely not!Hypnobirthing can be useful however you plan to give birth, whether that's at home, in a birth centre or in hospital. The techniques and knowledge we cover can help you prepare for spontaneous labour, induction, pain relief, assisted birth or a planned caesarean. There's no right or wrong way to give birth, and hypnobirthing isn't about achieving a particular type of birth.
I'd really encourage it!Your birth partner has a hugely important role, and the course is designed for both of you. They'll learn how to support your relaxation, help create a calm environment, understand your birth preferences and support you with decisions during labour. You don't have to have a partner to attend, though. You're welcome to bring whoever will be supporting you during birth.
One of the biggest advantages of learning privately is that the course is completely tailored to you.We have around 12 hours together over four sessions, with plenty of time to explore your questions, worries, birth preferences and individual circumstances. There are no other couples, no rushing through topics and no questions you need to feel embarrassed about asking. And because I come to your home, you can learn in your own comfortable surroundings without travelling to a class.
The Complete Private Hypnobirthing & Birth Preparation Course costs £425 per couple. This includes four private sessions (approximately 12 hours), a pre-course consultation, the complete KG Hypnobirthing programme, The Hypnobirthing Book by Katharine Graves, your parent resource pack, relaxation MP3s and local travel.Your birth partner is included in the price.
Most of my courses take place in your own home, so you can relax and learn somewhere familiar.I'm based near Winchester and Andover and cover surrounding areas of Hampshire.Evening and weekend appointments are available, and online courses can also be arranged.Travel within my local teaching area is included, with a small additional charge potentially applying for locations further afield.
You're certainly not alone, and you don't need to feel calm or confident before starting the course! We can spend time exploring your concerns and learning techniques to help you manage fear, understand your options and feel better prepared. If you have significant birth anxiety or previous birth trauma, hypnobirthing can complement support from your midwife or specialist maternity team.
You're very welcome!Every pregnancy and birth is different, and many parents find hypnobirthing particularly valuable when preparing for a subsequent birth. If you've already completed a full hypnobirthing course, I also offer a private refresher session for £150, tailored to your previous experiences and this pregnancy.
No — and I'd never promise you that.Hypnobirthing can help you develop relaxation, breathing and coping techniques, but every labour is different. You might choose pain relief, need additional support or find that birth takes an unexpected direction.None of that means hypnobirthing hasn't worked. My aim is to help you feel informed, supported and equipped with practical tools, whatever happens.
Simply get in touch through my contact form with your approximate due date and where you're based. We'll have a chat about what you're looking for, discuss availability and find dates that work for you.I usually teach during evenings and weekends, so I'd recommend getting in touch early if you have particular dates in mind.
